Tuesday August 9

Tuesday: Today the temperature reached 31 C without any rain falling.

At Dogwood Elementary, Nancy started organizing her room and worked on her bulletin boards. Our daughter-in-law Betsy helped by going to the sewing store and picking out the fabric.Nancy has a lot of work to do in her room, but she has several days to arrange things just the way she wants them.
Meanwhile at Jim's school, the Parent Association served a tremendous breakfast to the teachers. But look....no rice or fish! Starting from the top right of the plate, there is egg casserole, including ham, with cheese on top. At the top left is a shredded potato dish similar to "hash browns". At the bottom left are "sticky buns" consisting of baked dough balls with brown sugar, cinnamon and nuts. To the bottom right is French toast, which is toasted bread dipped in egg and baked, then covered in sweet syrup. This is typical of what Americans eat for a special event, not every day.
Here is Jim in his classroom. He is waiting for the technical administrator to come and make the 23 computers in the room work properly. Sometimes it takes a great deal of patience until all the software in the computers is made to work perfectly.
Tonight for dinner Betsy planned out the menu and she and Jacob cooked the dishes. Dinner included wonton wrappers stuffed with spinach and cheese, broccoli, and squash from Jacob's garden. You may not recognize the kitchen appliances. At the top is a microwave, which cooks food very quickly. The pots are sitting on the stove top, powered by electricity (no flame), and below that is the oven, also powered by electricity.
